about
Written after a trip to Lebanon in 2019 this song was inspired by conversations I had one evening in Baalbek, through google translate, with a Syrian man I met named Mmdouh who had been forced to flee from the war there, by conversations with other people I met all over Lebanon during that trip and by the ongoing suffering of people in the Middle East and especially relevant to Palestine.
Sample used from a field recording I took in Baalbek that day, which lies close to the Syrian border and is heavily patrolled by Hezbollah troops and has the most amazing examples of Roman architecture in the world, Good Friday April 2019.
Donations for this track will go to Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP).
'Song for Mary Black' is an enigma wrapped in an epiphany wrapped in a dream. It's the kind of song that makes you ask yourself: 'What have I done to deserve this? How am I allowed to bathe in such gorgeousness?' On par with Seefeel's 'Cherry Coloured Funk'-remix. Only gripe: it should be twice as long. Stellar. lbi
